The Office of Attorney General Tim Griffin is seeking to hire an experienced attorney to join his dynamic team in the Consumer Protection Division.

The Consumer Protection Division protects consumers and the legitimate business community from deceptive trade practices, unfair business practices, and excessive utility rates or charges; mediates disputes between consumers and businesses; and educates the public regarding consumer issues. The Attorney General investigates and sues bad actors in Arkansas and Federal courts and often works with other Arkansas and Federal agencies and with other state attorneys general.

 

Responsibilities

 

The attorney hired for this position will provide legal representation to the State of Arkansas in matters involving deceptive business practices, data privacy, antitrust, and matters affecting the interests of consumers. Additional duties include providing consumer education to the public, working with other state agencies, drafting legislation, and engaging with businesses and industry to maintain high standards of honesty and fair business practices in the advertisement and sale of consumer goods and services.

This position requires daily in-office presence and the ability to travel in and out of state overnight occasionally. The applicant must be self-motivated to work collaboratively in a professional environment, exercise sound judgment, and communicate effectively. Assistant Attorneys General work under the supervision of Senior Assistant Attorneys General and a Deputy Attorney General.

 

Qualifications

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Arkansas and should have significant motion practice, discovery, and deposition experience. Plaintiff’s class action work, antitrust, data privacy, knowledge of legal principles and practices relevant to the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, or other consumer protection statutes and regulations, and/or complex civil litigation experience are preferred. Assistant Attorneys General in the Consumer Protection Division carry a significant caseload. Successful applicants must be effective managers of their time and able to prioritize and delegate tasks.
