About NAGTRI

The National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute (NAGTRI) is the research and training arm of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG). 2008 marked the inaugural season for NAGTRI, which was created with a vote by the Executive Committee at the 2007 NAAG Winter Meeting. It was charged with providing an umbrella to expand, standardize, and professionalize research and training, maximize program offerings and facilitate creativity and responsiveness to both long term and short-fuse, developing issues.

Assistant Attorneys General around the country have been trained in important legal topics such as charities fraud, e-discovery, computer forensics for attorneys, predatory lending, trial advocacy, depositions, negotiations, management, and many others. NAGTRI’s mobile trainings respond to specific requests on specific topics from the offices of Attorneys General.

NAGTRI has leveraged many approaches to maximize its reach. Examples include “train the trainer” courses where Assistant Attorneys General are supplied with the expertise and materials necessary to return to their states and train other Assistant Attorneys General at no cost to NAGTRI. NAGTRI, in conjunction with the Alliance partnership funded by USAID, trained 26 Mexican Prosecutors in oral trial advocacy as Mexico switches to an adversarial system.

Many NAGTRI courses are scholarship-based, thanks to the generous support of the Mission Foundation.
