TITLE:            Deputy Attorney General 1 (Section Chief)

SALARY:        $121,847.68 to $170,581.04

LOCATION:   Division of Law Environmental and Clean Energy Practice Group Public Utilities Section 25 Market Street, Trenton, NJ 08625

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of an Assistant Attorney General and the Deputy Director of the Environmental and Clean Energy Practice Group, the Section Chief will supervise the work of the Public Utilities Section, provides legal representation and counsel to the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), the state agency charged with advancing New Jersey’s renewable energy projects, and the regulation of utilities which provide critical services such as electricity, natural gas, water, wastewater treatment, telecommunications and cable television services; is primarily responsible for planning and managing the supervision and operations of the Section; assigns matters and supervises Assistant Section Chief and Deputy Attorneys General in the Section; litigates and supervises investigations and litigation; evaluates the performance of assigned Assistant Section Chief and Deputy Attorneys General; conducts case file reviews; and performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:  Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience as a practicing attorney, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in public utilities work.
