Responsibilities

This attorney will represent the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation on a variety of transactional, administrative, and litigation matters relating to the agency’s Division of Spill Prevention and Response, Division of Air Quality, Division of Environmental Health, and Division of Water.  The attorney’s caseload would likely include a wide variety of environmental matters including general agency advice to each of the four divisions; work on the cleanup of contaminated sites, response to oil spills, cost recovery, air and water project permitting, permit compliance, and permit enforcement; review and defense of oil spill contingency plans; and handling administrative appeals of agency decisions. The attorney may also assist in the development and review of regulations and legislation related to environmental law and in the agency’s response to requests for public records.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have excellent communication, oral advocacy, writing, and time management skills, and must possess good judgment. The ability to handle a high volume of cases in a fast-paced work environment is essential. Two full years of licensed practice and experience in civil litigation or administrative law are preferred.
