The AGO seeks to fill a new position in the Community Justice Unit, an Assistant Court Diversion Director. The Assistant Court Diversion Director, working closely with the other two members of the Unit, will consult and coordinate with providers and other partners to develop a statewide Pre-charge Diversion program. Overview Community Justice Unit

The Community Justice Unit (CJU) administers Court Diversion and Pretrial Services in close partnership with community-based restorative justice providers as well as addressing broader issues related to community justice.

Responsibilities

The position will work closely with the Court Diversion Director and responsibilities include the following:

  • Partner with community providers, victim advocacy organizations, State’s Attorneys, defense attorneys, the Judiciary, and other criminal and youth justice system players to develop a Pre-charge Diversion Program that aligns with Post-charge Diversion per 3 V.S.A. §§ 163, 164.
  • Develop policies and procedures
  • Establish and implement quality assurance procedures
  • Organize and provide training
  • Provide individual and group consultation and support to providers
  • Present in various settings including community meetings, statewide meetings of partners, and the Legislature

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of principles involved in the development and delivery of restorative justice practices and programs; human resources management, including the principles and techniques of supervision and organizational and professional development; and knowledge of local and state agency involvement in restorative justice and the civil, criminal justice and youth justice systems.

Candidates should have strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective professional and working relationships with a diverse range of practitioners and groups, including elected officials. They should demonstrate a commitment to the principles of restorative justice and maintaining strength-based and respectful relationships.

The position is located at 109 State Street in Montpelier, Vermont; however, the position is currently hybrid, with in-office work required on certain days in accordance with AGO policies. The successful candidate will be prepared to travel statewide as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) or more years of experience administering or managing a humans services program including two (2) or more years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in criminal justice or a human services field.

Experience with program planning and evaluation in restorative and community justice.

Knowledge of Vermont’s criminal and youth justice systems.
