Assistant Attorney General – Consumer Fraud Unit (term-limited)

The Consumer Fraud Unit is seeking an enthusiastic attorney to support the work of the Consumer Fraud Unit in tackling the issue of fraudulent business filings, i.e., businesses created or modified using false or unauthorized information. In this role, you’ll be responsible for investigating fraudulent entity complaints (primarily those submitted to the Colorado Secretary of State) and interfacing with consumers and the Secretary of State’s Office about those complaints. While your primary responsibility will be managing our fraud filing complaint investigations and processes, you will also have the opportunity to work on other Consumer Fraud matters to the extent time permits. From large multistate investigations into international corporations, to fly-by-night fraudsters targeting vulnerable populations, the Consumer Fraud Unit works hard to protect Coloradans against all manner of deceptive, fraudulent, and other unfair business practices. This is a great position for an attorney who wants to be part of a team dedicated to protecting Colorado consumers and businesses.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Fraud Unit is expected to handle a caseload and to be our primary point of contact on investigations, enforcement, and processes relating to fraudulent business filings. This attorney will, among other things, liaise with the Secretary of State regarding fraudulent entity complaints submitted to that office and referred to the Attorney General, manage our investigations into these complaints according to the process established in C.R.S. § 7-90-314, and communicate with consumers and businesses affected by fraudulent business filings. In addition to managing our fraud filing complaint investigations, you will also be responsible for other investigations and enforcement relating to fraudulent entity filings in the State of Colorado. If bandwidth permits, you may also be assigned a variety of other matters handled by Consumer Fraud, and would be responsible for creating and executing investigation plans, analyzing potential violations of consumer protection laws, negotiating settlements, and litigating cases in both state and federal court. You will also oversee the work of paralegals, investigators, and other administrative personnel partnering on your cases.

The attorney that fills this term-limited role will receive full benefits and be a full and valued member of the Consumer Fraud team. The unit seeks self-driven and motivated individuals who enjoy collaborating with their colleagues to achieve the best results for Colorado consumers.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Consumer Fraud Unit is seeking an attorney with a strong interest or background in consumer protection. Although the Consumer Fraud Unit seeks self-driven and motivated applicants, the individuals who will succeed in the position are team players and enjoy collaborating with their colleagues to achieve the best results for Colorado consumers.
