The Criminal Justice Division

The Criminal Justice Division of the Oregon Department of Justice conducts specialized local, state, and federal criminal investigations and prosecutions and provides highly trained and experienced special agents, prosecutors, and analysts to fight crime across Oregon; the Division is the only agency in Oregon that has the unique ability to combine the skills of all three disciplines in a single agency to comprehensively address crime in our communities. The Division also provides outreach and training to citizens, victim service providers, and members of the law enforcement community to help ensure that Oregonians receive the highest level of service from the criminal justice system.

At this time, we are seeking applications from current or previous prosecutors for the position of Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor as an Assistant Attorney General in the District Attorney Assist Section of the Attorney General’s Criminal Justice Division. This position may be based in Salem, Portland, or Eugene and will require periodic travel throughout the state. This position is eligible for a hybrid scheduled of working in the office and remotely.

The attorney selected for the position of DUII Resource Prosecutor will be responsible for duties to include: providing technical assistance and case support to prosecutors in the state for DUII prosecutions at any stage; developing and maintaining a state-wide resource for DUII case law, and expanding the existing motion bank, expert witness materials and other DUII resource materials; providing information on DUII law via the DUII list serve and the DUII section of the Oregon District Attorney Resource Network (ODARN) website; working on DUII publications; assessing the types of assistance requests received and using that information to determine the needs for additional resource materials, trainings and other needs for successful prosecution; presenting at and assisting with DUII-related trainings; coordinating with other Oregon and national programs dedicated to combating traffic-related crime including the Governor’s office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The attorney selected must be able to work closely with people from a variety of disciplines including: state agencies, law enforcement officers, and prosecutors from a number of different offices. The person must have demonstrated excellent organizational, trial, and writing skills, and must be willing to travel extensively.
