Responsibilities

If yes, the Division of Legal Services, Public Protection Unit, is looking for a Unit Director (Assistant Attorney General-Management) to join their leadership team.

Under the general direction of the Deputy Division Administrator, this position serves as the Unit Director for the Public Protection Unit in the Division of Legal Services. The position provides oversight and direction to the Assistant Attorney General-Supervisor, multiple Assistant Attorneys General, and legal support staff in the unit. This position determines the direction of the unit and oversees the enforcement of the State’s consumer protection and antitrust laws, through counsel and representation to the Governor, state agencies, and corporation counsel and will enforce the statutes under the Attorney General’s jurisdiction. This position is also responsible for budgetary administration, program coordination and related management functions, and has the authority to formulate, determine and implement management policies.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants must have a Juris doctor degree and professional attorney experience in the following:

  • Leading a team or supervising staff that includes legal professionals.
  • Litigating cases in court.
  • Analyzing statutes and case law.
  • Conducting in-depth legal research.
  • Writing briefs or judicial decisions as a primary drafter.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will also have a combination of education, training, and/or experience:

  • Managing employees that include attorneys and legal professionals.
  • Working in area(s) of consumer protection, antitrust, and/or labor law.
  • Establishing employee priorities and objectives for professional growth and development.

Special Qualification: Candidate must be a member in good standing with the Wisconsin State Bar upon appointment.
