Lowering Violent Crime & Supporting Victims

In recent years, Delaware has experienced one of the country’s steepest declines in violent crime, which reached its lowest level on record in 2022. In September, Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings will host the 2024 Eastern Region meeting, where speakers and panelists will discuss the successful models at work around the country and in the First State; the role that state attorneys general can play in sustainably reducing violent crime; and how policymakers can better support victims of crime in their states.

Speakers and panelists will discuss:

  • Modernizing policy surrounding bail, pretrial detention, and victims’ rights
  • Protecting domestic violence victims from guns
  • Effective investigation, prosecution, and disruption of gangs and violent criminal enterprises
  • Interrupting gun violence through multilateral enforcement strategies
  • Intelligence sharing, and community-based intervention programs

Agenda Overview

The Eastern Region Meeting starts on Tuesday, September 17, with a welcome reception at Hotel Du Pont. The following day, Wednesday, September 18, is focused on reducing violent crime, featuring discussions on violent criminal enterprise investigations, crime reduction in Wilmington, community-based intervention programs, and evidence-based prosecution. The day concludes with a reception and dinner at Winterthur. Thursday, September 19, is dedicated to supporting victims, with presentations on mass shooting response, victims’ services, and juvenile gun violence, ending with closing remarks.
