This program is best suited for attorneys who have not previously attended a NAGTRI Trial Advocacy Training Program. This intensive advocacy course consists of on-demand lessons covering different aspects of evidentiary issues, followed by an in-person, two-day session where participants will admit exhibits, impeach witnesses, and make objections in performances based on a fictional case file. The on-demand lessons consist of videos, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and next steps for participants to prepare for the live session. Participants will need to complete the on-demand lessons and prepare for their performances prior to the live session. Note: participants will play each other’s witnesses during the performances.
This training will teach you to:
- Apply the underlying principles of admitting and excluding evidence in the courtroom.
- Identify different types of exhibits and lay a foundation for the admission of each type.
- Use exhibits persuasively to advance your case theory.
- Identify different methods of impeaching a witness.
- Use impeachment to attack a witness’s testimony.

This training is a closed session for attorneys general and attorney general staff only.
NAGTRI will provide a limited number of scholarships to selected participants to participate in the training. Offices are not guaranteed a slot, though NAGTRI makes every effort to accept nominees from as many attorney general offices as possible.
