Attorney general offices play an active role before the Supreme Court and are the second most active litigant before the Court. Attorney general offices are increasingly represented before the Supreme Court by solicitors general, who head their offices’ appellate practices.

The State Solicitors General and Appellate Chiefs Conference provides a forum in which state solicitors general and appellate chiefs can exchange ideas and obtain information that will help improve each state’s appellate practice.
