This posting is for a Supervising Deputy Attorney General (SDAG) position on the Trial Team in the Sacramento/Fresno Appeals, Writs, and Trials section of the Criminal Division (AWT).
The Trial Team is made up of experienced trial prosecutors who investigate and prosecute felony and misdemeanor cases when the local prosecutorial agency is recused. The Sacramento and Fresno offices handle recusal cases for thirty-two counties in the Northern and Eastern parts of the state (the counties within the jurisdiction of California’s Third and Fifth Appellate Districts). The Trial Team SDAG oversees the team’s investigations and prosecutions, as well as the review of charging decisions by local prosecuting agencies. Working closely with the Senior Assistant Attorney General, the Trial Team SDAG also consults regularly with elected and top-ranking prosecutors in local prosecutors’ offices.
Working Conditions:
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on DOJ’s current telework policy. While DOJ supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises.
Salary:
DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL SUPERVISOR: $13,203.00 – $17,727.00
New to State candidates in the DAG series will be hired at the starting “Hire Above Minimum” (HAM) salary of the classification: Deputy Attorney General Supervisor (8 years): $14,655 per month.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Membership in CA State Bar
- Minimum of 8 years as a licensed attorney
Desirable Qualifications:
This SDAG position is for supervising an appellate team in the Sacramento/Fresno AWT section. Applicants should have substantial experience with California criminal law, and with criminal appellate, habeas, and writ practice. Applicants should also have substantial experience reviewing and editing pleadings for filing in the appellate courts. SDAGs should have exceptional judgment and tact, and should work effectively with all levels of staff. SDAGs should be administratively proficient, have strong organizational skills, and be effective managers. SDAGs should have the ability to work under pressure, demonstrate initiative, and be creative and resourceful problem solvers.
