Enforcement of our antitrust laws is vital to the preservation of a healthy competitive climate in Illinois. When businesses compete, consumers benefit from goods or services of higher quality at lower prices and workers benefit from higher wages and better conditions of employment. To protect such competition, it is the mission of the Antitrust Bureau to enforce both state and federal antitrust laws on behalf of Illinois consumers, businesses, workers, and governmental entities. The Antitrust Bureau investigates and challenges anticompetitive mergers, price-fixing agreements, and other illegal practices that harm Illinois interests. The Antitrust Bureau frequently collaborates with the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and other state attorneys general on investigations and enforcement actions.
Assistant Attorneys General within the Antitrust Bureau develop and file high-profile, complex cases under state and federal antitrust laws. Antitrust attorneys work on matters ranging from price-fixing and monopolization cases to investigation of anticompetitive mergers in a broad array of industries. An Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Bureau is responsible for, in collaboration with other Assistant Attorneys General in the Bureau, all aspects of the investigation and litigation of assigned cases, including investigative memoranda, pleadings, discovery, court appearances, witness interviews, depositions, mediations, settlements, and trial, and generally representing the interests of the People of the State of Illinois. Antitrust AAGs also have the opportunity to work closely with other state and federal antitrust enforcement agencies.
