The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

The OAG is seeking an experienced litigator to represent the Maryland Environmental Service (MES). MES is a unique, mission-driven state agency, established as a not-for-profit business unit of the State that delivers essential services in water supply, wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal, dredge material management, and energy management. MES provides multi-disciplinary environmental compliance services to enhance and protect the environment through innovative solutions to the region’s most complex environmental challenges. Additional information can be obtained on the MES website at www.menv.com.

The OAG unit representing MES consists of four Assistant Attorneys General    and one Paralegal who are    collaborative, team players, adaptable, and flexible. Success in this role depends not only on legal expertise but also on the ability to build strong working relationships with the team and the client, where mutual support, open communication, and shared problem-solving are essential. If you are enthusiastic about public service and committed to issues related to the environment, we encourage you to apply for this position!

AAGs in the unit are responsible for advising MES on all aspects of its mission and operations, with additional legal matters or responsibilities assigned as appropriate. Whether you’re navigating complex litigation, advising on business transactions, or helping the client work through issues on their projects, you’ll play an important role in supporting and advancing MES’s mission to protect and enhance Maryland’s environment.
