Salary: $95,798 – $160,555. The salary range is based on a multitude of factors including applicable personnel rules, regulations, and guidelines.

DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
Responsibilities
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Attorney General for the Lending and Finance Unit in the Consumer Protection Division. The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) will enforce the Consumer Protection Act and related statutes addressing unfair, abusive, or deceptive trade practices in connection with consumer loans and other financial transactions and products. The AAG conducts investigations into patterns of illegal trade practices and brings enforcement actions to obtain restitution and civil penalties, and injunctive relief to prevent future improper conduct. The position provides an opportunity to protect Maryland consumers, obtain relief for consumers who have been injured by illegal conduct and deter those who would prey on Maryland’s most vulnerable consumers through the use of unfair, abusive, or deceptive trade practices.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of legal experience, which may include one or more judicial clerkship(s); an outstanding academic record; and excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Experience in complex civil litigation (such as class action, mass tort, multidistrict, government enforcement, or similar litigation) and experience with consumer lending and finance is desirable.
