NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY #24-155

An opportunity currently exists in the unclassified service with the Department of Law & Public Safety, Division of Law, for applicants who meet the requirements specified below:

TITLE: Deputy Attorney General 4 OR Deputy Attorney General 3

SALARY:

  • DAG 4 – $90,643.87 to $129,354.76
  • DAG 3 -$104,206.72 to $149,010.97

LOCATION: Division of Law Administrative Practice Group Health and Human Services Section 25 Market Street, Trenton, NJ 08625

NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: One (1)

The Sexually Violent Predator group within the Health and Human Services Section based in Trenton oversees civil commitment matters on behalf of the Attorney General. The group’s work includes reviewing referrals for potential commitment, frequent court appearances for commitment hearings, counseling the Special Treatment Unit on commitment issues, handling commitment appeals, and representing the State in litigation related to the Sexually Violent Predator Act.

Responsibilities

DUTIES: Under the direction of the Section Chief and Assistant Section Chief of the Health and Human Services Section, and other supervisory officials in Department of Law and Public Safety, Deputy Attorneys General will provide counsel to and represent the State; assist with strategic investigations; represent the Attorney General in litigation enforcing the Sexually Violent Predator Act; participate in investigations, litigation, and appeals; and perform other related work as required.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS 

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL 4: Two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL 3: Three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.

LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience with the Sexually Violent Predator Act or other involuntary civil commitments and/or experience handling complex civil or criminal affirmative investigations and enforcement actions.

*SALARY NOTE: For newly hired individuals, the starting salary and title will be determined by the Department commensurate with experience. Salary offers and titles are non-negotiable and will fall within the range posted.
