Delaware’s Attorney General, the State’s chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State. In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion. Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public’s access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

 

The Department of Justice is seeking a Deputy Attorney General (“DAG”) for the Civil Division, to serve in the Environmental Unit in New Castle County.  The Environmental Unit offers advice on a full range of legal issues to DNREC, which includes the following Divisions: Waste and Hazardous Substances, Fish & Wildlife, Parks & Recreation, Watershed Stewardship, Water, Coastal, Climate & Energy, and the Environmental Crimes Unit. Representation includes enforcement of environmental laws and permit violations through administrative actions and litigation.

Responsibilities

This DAG works within the Department of Justice’s Environmental Unit and serves as one of the DAGs assigned to represent the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (“DNREC”). This DAG will also defend DNREC before administrative boards and Delaware Courts, review of documents, permits and contracts, and review of legislation and regulations, as well as advice in areas such as human relations and risk management. Representation includes enforcement of environmental laws and permit violations through administrative actions and litigation.

Qualifications

Membership in Delaware Bar is required.

Experience in litigation and administrative law, including regulatory practice is preferred, along with a background in natural resources law and environmental issues.
