Salary: This position offers a salary range of $118,937 – $168,031, with potential for advancement up to $185,523 over time based on longevity and increased responsibilities. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, equity, and available budget, and will not exceed $168,031.

DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials,
and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical
focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a committed and experienced attorney to serve as Deputy Principal Counsel to the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Cannabis Commission (ATCC). As of January of 2021, the ATCC became an independent agency responsible for licensing and enforcement related to the manufacture and distribution of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, as well as pursuing enforcement actions against unlicensed cannabis operators.
In this role, the Deputy Principal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support to the ATCC, including its five members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate, the Office of the Executive Director (OED), and the agency’s staff. The attorney will serve as a key legal advisor, offering both formal advice and day-to-day counsel on a wide range of matters related to the Commission’s
regulatory and enforcement responsibilities.
Responsibilities
This position involves advising on legal issues that impact ATCC policymaking, administration, and enforcement activities. The Deputy Principal Counsel will also be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and drafting legislation, regulations, contracts, and agency policies. Additionally, the attorney will represent the ATCC in administrative and judicial proceedings arising from its enforcement actions.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have at least eight (8) years of experience, including litigation experience and a strong background in administrative and regulatory law, Excellent research and writing skills are essential. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, along with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced legal environment, are essential. Initiative and creative problem-solving
skills are highly valued. Admission to the Maryland Bar, or the ability to waive in, is required
