Seek justice for New Mexico citizens through statewide criminal prosecutions. The New Department of Justice is seeking a dynamic and experienced trial attorney to join the Special Prosecutions Team. A Senior Prosecutor will handle a limited caseload of more complex criminal cases. This will include developing prosecution strategies to include case initiation, motions practice, victim communications, trial preparation, and post-conviction proceedings.
Responsibilities
· Prosecute state-wide criminal cases, to include case initiation by grand jury or preliminary hearing, pretrial litigation, trial practice, sentencing and other post-adjudication practice.
· Assist and advise investigators on legal issues related to search and seizure and other constitutional issues.
· Provide legislative bill analysis for New Mexico legislation.
Qualifications
· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
· Admission to the New Mexico state bar and in good standing or the ability to acquire a limited law license.
· 7 years of experience in criminal litigation and trial practice or its equivalent, including experience in grand jury and preliminary hearing practice, conducting discovery, and dispositive motions practice.
· Strong knowledge of New Mexico rules of criminal procedure, rules of evidence and other relevant legal areas.
· Proven track record of successful criminal prosecutions.
· Excellent collaborative and communicative skills with the ability to advise and motivate a team of attorneys and legal professionals.
· Outstanding legal research, writing, and trial advocacy skills.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Excellent organizational skills.
· Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
