Job Title: Assistant Attorney General VII Position Type: Regular Full-Time

Salary: $95,798 – $160,555. The salary range is based on a multitude of factors including applicable personnel rules, regulations, and guidelines.

DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

Responsibilities

The Office of the Attorney General, Department of Natural Resources (“DNR”) is seeking applicants to serve as an Assistant Attorney General and Senior Counsel for Litigation. The responsibilities include representing DNR in cases before State and federal trial and appellate courts, the Office of Administrative Hearings, and other administrative tribunals. The Senior Counsel handles civil litigation related to: fisheries, parks, forestry, boating, land acquisition and ownership, Critical Area law, personnel, tort claims, and other natural resources-related matters. The position also leads other attorneys engaged in litigation on behalf of DNR.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements are Maryland Bar membership and at least seven years of legal experience in civil trial and appellate litigation, strong writing, editing, and oral advocacy skills, an ability to handle all phases of litigation independently and to provide support and guidance to other attorneys representing DNR. Experience in administrative, employment, and/or natural resources law is preferred.
