The California Department of Justice is hiring an attorney in our Special Prosecutions Section, located in Los Angeles and San Diego.

Deputies in the Special Prosecutions Section are experienced trial attorneys who work independently in the prosecution of complex, multijurisdictional criminal cases including various forms of fraud, AB 1506 officer-involved fatal shooting incidents, tax evasion and underground economy violations, human trafficking, and political corruption.

Section deputies coordinate with teams of legal, auditing, and law enforcement professionals and handle every stage of investigation and prosecution from referral to jury trial, and may be tasked to assist multiagency task forces, such as the Tax Recovery in the Underground Economy (TRUE) task force, and other law enforcement agencies.

Deputies are required to travel to fully participate in investigations and prosecutions in multiple jurisdictions and to attend crime scenes.

Salary Ranges (Monthly)

  • DAG (0-5 years of legal experience) $7,737.00 – $11,173.00
  • DAG III (5+ years of legal experience) $10,536.00 – $13,526.00
  • DAG IV (6+ years of legal experience) $11,644.00 – $14,954.00

Qualifications

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Substantial experience in felony criminal trial practice;
  • Experience handling complex matters, data and document driven cases, and matters involving officer use of force and forensic evidence;
  • Knowledge of state criminal laws and procedure;
  • Demonstrated skill in litigation and legal and research and writing;
  • Ability to manage complex financial and other investigations;
  • Willing to travel;
  • Able to effectively work under stress and time pressures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be an active member of the California State Bar.
