Case Description
The state’s investigation suggested that automobile rental companies may have conspired to fix the walk-up prices for vehicle rentals throughout Florida. Essentially, the competitor rental companies directly exchanged inventory information and walk-up rates at airports and other locations throughout the state. The alleged conspiracy appeared to at least constitute a violation of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. In response to the charges by the state, the companies agreed to informally resolve the state’s concerns by discontinuing to share walk-up rates, and they disseminated antitrust compliance information to educate their employees about risks of collusive pricing.
