Case Description

An Assurance of Voluntary Compliance was reached after complaints to Connecticut Attorney General that SNET refused to give businesses that used consultants the same kind of discounts and accommodations as those that did their business directly with SNET. In agreeing to the Assurance of Voluntary Compliance SNET did not admit any violation of law. The agreement’s terms stipulate that SNET: (1) Shall not require a face-to-face meeting with an advertiser as a condition of doing business so long as SNET has received notice in writing from an advertiser that a yellow page consultant is authorized to act on the advertiser’s behalf; (2) Shall provide yellow page consultants with the same information, terms and conditions as it provides to advertisers that do not use consultants; (3) Shall not discriminate against clients of a yellow page consultant on the basis that such clients have a yellow page consultant.
