Case Description
Agreement reached that addressed concerns that hospital referring patients to home health care providers was steering patients to its affiliated home health provider and not providing patients with any competing choices. Cox Hospital owned Oxford HealthCare. Under agreement, hospital staff responsible for helping patients plan for needed post-discharge care were required to provide a list of all agencies that offer state-approved home health care services and arrange for appointments for those patients to speak with any of them. The Hospital was further not allowed to recommend affiliated providers over competing providers. The hospital agreed to reimburse the Attorney General for the cost of the investigation and post-settlement monitoring of $100,000.
