Case Description
Northern Mississippi River and Ohio River States sought to minimize the anticompetitive affect of the merger between Cargill and Akzo regarding competition in the mining and sale of salt products. Cargill reached settlement terms with the States, agreeing to divest certain assets, i.e. to divest the Bulk Deicing Salt Supply Agreement, to an acquirer or acquirers acceptable to the plaintiffs in their sole discretion. Ohio and Missouri lead the investigation. U.S. DOJ also filed case regarding same merger. See U.S. v. Cargill Inc., No. 6:97-CV-6161 (W.D.N.Y. July 22, 1997)
