Since NAAG's founding in 1907, the state attorneys general have partnered with the U.S. Attorney General on initiatives with shared interests. As part of that relationship, NAAG annually invites the U.S. Attorney General to speak with NAAG members. Throughout the year, NAAG engages with the U.S. Attorney General through the Executive Working Group on Prosecutorial Relations and other joint efforts.
Several former state attorneys general have later served as the U.S. Attorney General including former Ohio Attorney General William Saxbe, former Massachusetts Attorney General Elliot Richardson, former Missouri Attorney General John Ashcroft, and former Alabama Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Attorney General William P. Barr
During the NAAG Capital Forum, Attorney General Barr addressed the attorneys general on December 10th, 2019.
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions
Then-U.S. Attorney General Sessions addressed the attorneys general during the NAAG Winter Meeting on February 27th, 2018.
Attorney General Sessions previously served as Alabama Attorney General from 1995-1997.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch
On February 23rd, 2016, the attorneys general heard from then-U.S. Attorney General Lynch during the NAAG Winter Meeting.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr.
On February 25, 2014, the attorneys general heard from then-U.S. Attorney General Holder at the NAAG Winter Meeting.
