Joseph M. Micheletti is a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey. He currently serves as a Section Chief in the Litigation Practice Group where he manages a group of trial attorneys. DAG Micheletti has over twenty-five years of public service and litigation experience.
During his time with the Attorney General’s Office, Joe has served in various staff and supervisory positions. He currently manages a group of attorneys who handle the defense of complex tort and civil rights litigations. Previously, DAG Micheletti served as a trial attorney in the Employment Litigation Section; where he provided representation to state agencies and employees in employment matters. Joe also served as an Assistant Section Chief in the State Police and Corrections Section; where he litigated a high volume of civil rights cases. DAG Micheletti has tried multiple matters before the New Jersey State and United States District Courts. Joe’s practice areas go beyond trial work. He has represented state agencies in front of administrative bodies, such as the Division of Civil Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Additionally, DAG Micheletti briefed and argued multiple appeals before the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division and the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Overall, DAG Micheletti has a wealth of experience in all aspects of litigation, from cradle to grave.
Since 2008 DAG Micheletti served as a faculty member for New Jersey Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute, which is responsible for providing legal education courses to the nearly 700 members of the Attorney General’s Office. Joe joined NAGTRI faculty in 2011 and teaches courses in the areas of trial advocacy, depositions, negotiation and Section 1983 law.
Outside of work, Joe is passionate about special education issues and has received national recognition for his work in the autism community. When not practicing law, or teaching, Joe enjoys traveling to Disney with his wife and three children.
