Washington, D.C. —The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG), with its membership of 56 state and territory attorneys general, announced today a partnership with Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). LETR raises funds for and awareness about the Special Olympics movement worldwide. The national partnership will help increase the number of law enforcement officials involved in LETR and related activities.
State and territory attorneys general will work at the national, state and community level to carry out programs and events, including the Torch Run, to raise awareness and help change perceptions and attitudes about people with intellectual disabilities.
NAAG Vice President and Montana Attorney General Tim Fox was appointed as NAAG representative to the Special Olympics and LETR executive council. Attorney General Fox has been a long-time supporter of the Montana LETR.
“Nearly 100,000 law enforcement officers from around the world participate in LETR and Special Olympics events every year,” said Attorney General Tim Fox. “I am excited for this new opportunity for our nation’s “Top Cops,” the state and territory attorneys general, to further the cause of the Special Olympics movement by championing love, acceptance, and inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities.”
Scott Whyte, chairman of the LETR International Executive Council said, “The partnership with the National Association of Attorneys General takes the relationship between Special Olympics and the law enforcement community to a new level – it is great news for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and we look forward to working together in support of our objectives.”
